Frequently Asked Questions
How do I order?
Order online for pickup Tuesday-Saturday at Shades of Lavender Farm, or delivery/pickup in SW Portage. Orders close 48 hours before pickup - sourdough asks us to slow down and savor the process.
Why the 48-hour lead time?
Because your bread doesn't exist yet! Everything is baked to order with wild yeast, and real fermentation can't be rushed. When you order, you're reserving a loaf that's about to begin its journey.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Anytime before ordering closes, 48 hours ahead of your pickup day. After that, your bread is already becoming bread - we will do our best, but there are no guarantees.
What if I miss my pickup?
Reach out as soon as you can and we'll try to arrange another day that week. Orders not picked up within 2 days are donated and aren't eligible for a refund.
Do you take returns?
Food items, no - everything is perishable and baked fresh for you, so all sales are final. But if something isn't right, tell us within 24 hours with a photo and we'll make it right with a replacement or store credit. We stand behind every loaf. Unopened pantry items and unused tools can be returned within 7 days with receipt.
Do you ship?
Yes! We're a fully MDARD-licensed bakery and many of our goods travel beautifully. We quote shipping individually so you never overpay - reach out with what you'd like and where it's headed.
What's in your bread?
Our recipes all start with clean ingredients we can feel good about. Unenriched Flours / Organic flours, Water, Sea Salt, and our Organic Sourdough Starter - no artificial flavors, colors, or enriched flours - Ever. Life's too short to give up the good stuff, so lets make the good stuff better.
Are your products allergy-friendly?
Everything is made in one kitchen that works with wheat, dairy, eggs, and nuts, so we can't guarantee against cross-contact. Full ingredients are on every label and product listing - and always ask if you're unsure.
Do you do wholesale?
We do - in limited quantities. We are a small batch artisanal bakehouse which means our items are hand crafted to order, so wholesale orders need 72 hours' notice. See our Wholesale page to inquire.
Can I learn to bake this myself?
Absolutely. Sourdough classes run at the farm - small, hands-on, and built to give you skills that last lifetimes. If you don't see what you're looking for on our calendar, send us a message and we'll see what we can do! We also offer private classes you can inquire about.

Shipping
Yes, we ship! Wild Hearts Bakehouse is a fully MDARD-licensed bakery, and many of our goods travel beautifully - though some ship better than others. (Sourdough loaves and pantry items are seasoned travelers; frosted things prefer to stay home.) Because every order is different, we quote shipping individually so you're never overpaying. Reach out with what you'd like and where it's headed, and we'll put together a quote - usually within a day. English muffins, sandwich loaves, cookies, pancake mixes, coffee, and cotton candy are favorites for shipping; if you're not sure whether something travels well, just ask.
